Alameda County Assistant District Attorney Terry O. Wiley was appointed last month to fill a temporary vacancy on the Board of Trustees through October 2016.

The State Bar Board of Trustees chose Wiley, 55, to fill a vacancy in District 1, which is comprised of Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano and Sonoma counties. The vacancy was created by the resignation of Daniel Dean, who moved out of the district.

“I am delighted that the board selected Terry Wiley after a serious deliberate consideration of a number of highly qualified candidates,” Board President David Pasternak said.

Wiley has been active in the State Bar of California Criminal Law Section since 1994, serving in a variety of roles, including as chairman of the executive committee. He’s also on the National Bar Association’s executive board and serves as chairman of its criminal law section.

“I'm honored to be appointed and look forward to working with my fellow board members and continue to improve the legal profession,” said Wiley, who was sworn in Nov. 20, the same day he was appointed.

Meanwhile, board elections are being held in District 1 and District 3, which is comprised of 23 counties in Northern California. Ballots will be mailed Dec. 31 to attorneys in those districts. The winners of those elections will be sworn in at the State Bar Annual Meeting in October.
