MCLE quality should be improved
Forcing attorneys to make sure our skills are up to date
at least once every three years is a good idea. However, as implemented, the
MCLE requirement leaves a lot to be desired. The quality of MCLE providers
varies from very poor to quite good, and there appears to be little
relationship to price paid. Three years ago I was generally pleased with the
quality of the materials I received, and the price was very reasonable, about
$130 as I recall. However, my most recent experience has left me with a bad
taste, and a plea to the State Bar that they check out providers and perhaps
rate them. Otherwise, what does State Bar approval mean?
