MCLE Self-Assessment Test

Welcome to the new California Bar e-Journal

Following the final publication of the print version of the California Bar Journal last month, our inaugural electronic issue was e-mailed March 1 to every California lawyer who has supplied an e-mail address to the State Bar.

The e-Journal carries the same features and information available in the print version, with links to sites that offer even more details. A complete list of disciplined lawyers, the Trials Digest feature, news and feature stories, as well as opinion, are online. We will continue to print readers’ letters. E-mail us at cbj@calbar.ca.gov. The Marketplace section continues to advertise law-related services and products, job openings and announcements. The e-Journal also will soon offer a Buyers Guide, featuring useful legal market services information for both products and services for bar members.

The monthly MCLE test is now interactive, making it easier for lawyers to take the test and enabling the bar to process payments and issue MCLE certificates online. (Group 3 — last names N through Z — is up next with a compliance deadline of Feb. 1, 2011.)

Please add CBeJ@calbar.ca.gov to your approved sender list.

The switch to an online newspaper is expected to save the State Bar up to $1.5 million annually through the elimination of printing and mailing costs. New Rule of Court 9.7, requiring lawyers to provide an e-mail address to the bar, facilitated the move. Addresses were to be provided by Feb. 1.

In order to provide an e-mail address, attorneys must log on to calbar.ca.gov and go to My State Bar Profile in the left menu. Follow the prompts in order to provide an e-mail address.

Notices to members that are required by statute, including the fee bill and disciplinary notices, will be mailed via the U.S. Postal Service.
