One of the State Bar’s most popular legal guides for parents is now updated
and available for ordering online. A collaboration between the bar and University of San Francisco Law School Professor Thomas A.
Nazario, the guide was once a small book and later condensed to its current
16-page format.
The State Bar held two public
meetings last month to review a restructuring proposal from two members of the Board
of Trustees. The proposal involves separating the bar regulatory role overseeing
attorney admissions and discipline and moving its trade association functions
into a new private, nonprofit.
When it comes to advocating
professionalism and ethical conduct, Karen M. Goodman and Judge Brian C. Walsh
are true standouts. Last month the State Bar recognized their decades-long efforts
in promoting ethics by granting them the highest honors possible.
The bar’s Litigation Section’s “Law
Suits” program launched a drive more than 15 years ago to donate suits and
other office wear to those who need it most. Its effort has blossomed into a
partnership with The Men’s Wearhouse retail chain and with other nonprofits
across the state.
Gov. Jerry Brown’s appointment of
Stacie Spector to the bar’s Board of Trustees follows her long history of
stints in the White House, the University of California San Diego and The Salk
Institute, all of them as a communications expert.
Chief Trial Counsel Jayne Kim has
announced her decision to leave the State Bar after five years of what
top managers called outstanding leadership. She
declined reappointment to the post.
