For the first time in nearly three decades, the State Bar has revised the standards for attorney discipline, which are used to determine the appropriate sanctions and ensure consistency in how cases are handled.

    As more bar applicants have used the Lawyer Assistance Program to help them cope with mental and physical problems, the average age of the participants has fallen dramatically. View an interactive graphic.
    Despite an impressive peak last year, the pass rate for the February bar exam was the lowest it’s been in the last five years.
