Attorney Robert A. Shields spends most of the year defending
Fortune 500 companies in product liability and breach of warranty claims. But
soon he’ll be gearing up for his true calling. He and his wife, Cheryl, honor hundreds

years as chief justice of California, Ronald M. George covers the highlights of
his career and throws in a few surprises in his recently released memoir. The oral history was published last month by UC Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies.
Nearly 5,000 applicants passed the July 2013 California Bar
Examination, making them eligible to become licensed lawyers as long as they
meet the other requirements for admission.
The bills for the 2014 State Bar annual membership fees were
mailed Dec. 2, triggering a Feb. 3 deadline for payment.
The State Bar is recruiting applicants for about 200
volunteer positions on more than three dozen committees, boards and
