After decades of domination by Republican appointees, the
newly reconstituted state Supreme Court is now approaching political parity –and
it’s not just the three fresh Democratic justices Gov. Jerry Brown appointed who
have altered the high court’s makeup.
There was good news for California’s court system in the
governor’s proposed spending plan released last month. The judicial branch is
in line to get an additional $146.3 million in 2016-17.
The public is invited to speak to the State Bar of
California’s Rules Revision Commission on Feb. 3 about proposed changes to the
Rules of Professional Conduct regarding the special responsibilities of
prosecutors.
Bar officials are broadening efforts to collect millions
owed by about 1,300 disciplined attorneys in cases dating back to 2006.
