Applicants sought for appointment, election to board

The State Bar Board of Trustees is accepting resumes through Oct. 5 from Northern California attorneys in District 1 who are interested in temporarily filling a vacancy on the board through October 2016. In addition, attorney candidates may submit their names for the 2016 elections in Districts 1 and 3.

Daniel Dean, who was elected to a three-year term in 2013, resigned Aug. 7 because he moved from San Francisco to the Los Angeles area.

Those interested in filling his unexpired term must maintain a principal law office in the district, which covers Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Solano and Sonoma counties. Send a letter (up to 3 pages) and resume (up to 2 pages) to Francisco Gomez, 180 Howard St., San Francisco, CA 94105. For questions, email francisco.gomez@calbar.ca.gov or call 415-538-2170.

Meanwhile, nominating petitions are available for attorneys interested running for election in Districts 1 and 3. District 3 covers Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Yolo and Yuba counties.

Any active member of the State Bar who maintains his or her principal office for the practice of law within the State Bar district in which there is a vacancy is eligible to run for a seat on the board. The election winners will begin their three-year terms in October 2016.

Nominating petitions are due Dec. 1. Voting will take place online and by mail in January and February 2016.
